SEARCHGREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL - Despite general revenue falling by $6 million, Clay County has managed to maintain public services through job cuts and reduced benefits for employees.
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL - Clay County commissioners are expected to approve next year's proposed $296 million total budget that includes a $12.5 million reduction in operating costs achieved through 52 employee layoffs, according to Clay Today.
Though general revenue fell by $6 million because of lower property values, the county has managed to maintain public services through job cuts and reduced benefits for employees.
In a letter addressed to county commissioners, County Manager Fritz Behring referred to the proposed budget as "one of maintenance" that features $109 million for capital improvement projects, $58.2 million in general funds, and $47.8 million for the Sheriff's Office.
Should the proposed budget pass as-is, next year's capital improvement projects would include $320,000 to replace and update the county's emergency vehicle fleet.
A final public hearing for the proposed budget is set for Sept.30, reported Clay Today.
