NEWARK, N.J. - Two brothers who own a truck dealership were sentenced to federal prison terms for bribing officials in Monmouth County so they could secure sales and repair contracts, according to the Web site, www.newsday.com.
Stephen Appolonia, 54, of Colts Neck, received a 28-month term, while Matthew Appolonia, 43, of Berkeley Township, was ordered to serve two years. The sentences were handed down by U.S. District Court Judge William Martini, who ordered both brothers to report to prison on March 3.
Both men pleaded guilty last year to bribery, conspiracy to launder money and other charges.
The case against them stemmed from "Operation Bid Rig," a federal sting that snared numerous public officials in Monmouth and Ocean counties. So far, more than 20 people charged in connection with the sting have pleaded guilty or been convicted.
