The City of Lake Oswego (Ore.) has hired Enterprise Fleet Management to maintain and service part of the city's vehicle fleet and plans to sell off its 24 fleet vehicles and replace them with leased units, reports the Lake Oswego Review.
The City Council approved contracts with Enterprise Fleet Management for $325,227 for the coming year.
The city maintains 160 fleet vehicles, of which about half are eligible for the program. The city won't lease siren or pursuit vehicles used for public safety. The remaining 60 vehicles eligible vehicles will likely be replaced in the next five years.
The decision to replace Toyota Prius cars with Ford Escape SUVs drew an objection from on council member.
"The proposed vehicle list converts the city fleet from one that included hybrids to one that is all SUVs," Councilor Jon Gustafson said. "This council adopted a sustainability management plan, and this proposal seems to completely ignore that."
