MARTINEZ, CA – The City of Martinez plans to purchase a new software tracking system to reduce take-home vehicle use and track maintenance costs, according to an article on MercuryNews.com. This was one of the recommendations City staff agreed with, the article stated. City staff said they plan to revise Martinez’s take-home vehicle policy but disagreed with other recommendations.

The article said the county’s grand jury reviewed the way that city and 19 others manage maintenance of fleet vehicles in a report. The report recommended that Martinez review its take-home vehicle policy, consolidate its vehicle maintenance facility with the county’s facility, and review its policy for purchasing parts.

City staff rejected the proposal to consolidate facilities, stating that there isn’t enough room for all of Martinez’s and the county’s vehicles. In addition, the article said the grand jury didn’t take into account the fact that the cost of parts applied to the total fleet, not just light-duty vehicles.
