LAS VEGAS – Two Honda FCX fuel cell (FC) vehicles are scheduled to be leased to the city of Las Vegas, as announced by American Honda. The vehicles will be leased for two years at a cost of $500 a month.
The vehicles will be refueled at a hydrogen station and will operate on a daily basis as part of the normal fleet operations. The two fuel cell cars are the only ones in service in Nevada. Honda's total number of fuel cell-powered vehicles in the U.S. is 14.
The FCX is the world's first and only fuel cell vehicle to receive certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). It is also the only fuel cell vehicle in regular daily operation with multiple customers in the U.S. and Japan.
Honda has been a member of the Sacramento, Calif.-based California Fuel Cell Partnership (CFCP) and has been researching fuel cell technology since 1989. Honda has been road testing fuel cell vehicles since 1999.
