HATTIESBURG, MS - City of Hattiesburg, Miss., police and fire departments are both looking to replace vehicles in the next fiscal year. Despite a tight budget, officials say both departments likely will have their requests granted, according to the Hattiesburg American.
The police department requested the purchase of five new detective cars and 15 new patrol cars costing about $400,000, citing a surplus of high-mileage vehicles.
City fire department officials requested three new pumper trucks to replace the three oldest in the fleet, which range from 11 to 19 years old.
Fire Chief David Webster said old equipment could change the fire safety rating for the community, which could impact the community's cost of fire insurance, according to the newspaper.
