AUBURN HILLS and DEARBORN, MI – Chrysler and Ford announced updates to their law enforcement pursuit vehicles, the Dodge Charger Pursuit and the Ford Police Interceptor Sedan. Chrysler is adding an all-wheel-drive system to the Charger equipped with the automaker’s 5.7L HEMI V-8. Ford is adding a 3.7L V-6 engine option to its PI sedan.
According to Chrysler, the AWD system on the Charger features an active transfer case and a front-axle-disconnect system that better balances performance and fuel economy. The automaker stated its engineers are already testing the Charger Pursuit with the AWD system, and that the vehicle will meet the police pursuit durability cycle for RWD models.
