Brown’s Request for Caltrans Vehicle Funds Questioned
SACRAMENTO – The California Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) has recommended that the State legislature reject Governor Jerry Brown’s $62.1 million funding request to replace 508 Department of Transportation (Caltrans) vehicles.
SACRAMENTO – The California Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) has recommended that the State legislature reject Governor Jerry Brown’s $62.1 million funding request to replace 508 Department of Transportation (Caltrans) vehicles to comply with federal and state air quality mandates. The fund would come from the State Highway Account.
Brown requested this one-time increase as part of a multi-year plan to retrofit and replace vehicles and equipment in the Caltrans fleet, but the LAO stated that in the past it has raised concerns about Caltrans’ compliance with State Air Resources Board regulations (CARB), specifically that the Governor’s proposal did not include other proposals to reduce or delay the costs associated with replacing Caltrans vehicles.
The LAO stated that it has already recommended rejecting funding requests to replace Caltrans vehicles in its 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 budget analyses.
