Richard Battersby, CAFM, CPFP, acting bureau of infrastructure & operations assistant director for the City of Oakland, Calif., received the Legendary Lifetime Achievement Award at the Government Fleet Expo and Conference (GFX).
Battersby was chosen by the industry among the Public Fleet Hall of Fame inductees; he was inducted in 2014. The award is sponsored by the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA), and Duff Erholtz from NJPA announced this year's winner.
"There are so many folks out here that are deserving...this probably means more to me than anything that's happened previously because it's voted by you," he told attendees at the awards ceremony. He also thanked his mentors and provided advice that he has learned throughout his career.
Battersby has more than 34 years in fleet management, having worked for the University of California, Davis; Contra Costa County; and State of California before joining the Oakland fleet. He is a leader in fleet greening and serves as coordinator for the East Bay Clean Cities Coalition. He was named Government Fleet’s 2013 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year, the 2012 American Public Works Association’s Professional Manager of the Year in Public Fleet, and was also inducted in the Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Hall of Fame in 2012.
