AURORA, IL – The City of Aurora has received an award from the EPA for eliminating lead wheel weights in its fleet of approximately 360 vehicles and equipment assets. The City replaced lead weights with steel ones.
Each vehicle could carry up to a pound of lead weights but through scheduled maintenance services and tire repairs, the lead will be converted to eco-friendly alternatives.
The City has also received the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Fleet designation.
The City of Aurora has a population of 197,899 and is the second largest city in the state Of Illinois.
