LOS ANGELES– In the wake of revelations that City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo let his wife drive his city-owned car, against city policy, prompted City Councilman Greig Smith to call for an audit of the city’s vehicle-fleet policy, according to the Web site www.DailyNews.com.

Delgadillo has been at the center of a recent controversy over disclosures that his wife, Michelle, was at the wheel when his Chevrolet Tahoe was involved in a minor crash and that the SUV was repaired at taxpayer expense. He apologized for the incident and wrote a check to cover the costs of repairs.

Smith said questions also arose during city budget sessions about the policies governing the more than 1,000 vehicles in the city fleet. Smith asked for reviews by the City Administrative Office, chief legislative, analyst and General Services Department. Smith said he wants an inventory of the fleet along with a list of how many are home-garaged, the criteria for employees being assigned city-owned cars, and the rules now in place.
