RENO, NV – An audit said that Washoe County could save more than $200,000 a year by reducing its vehicle fleet and contracting for maintenance services. The division employs 27 people to maintain about 1,029 vehicles, including tracked machinery, cars, trucks and trailers, according to the Associated Press.
The audit said that contracting out for oil changes and outfitting emergency equipment would free time for mechanics to concentrate on more serious repairs. It also recommends a review to see whether vehicles with low mileage should be sold. Of 559 vehicles, the county has 30 vehicles driven fewer than 3,000 miles a year and an additional 67 vehicles driven fewer than 4,800 miles.
