ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The Atlantic City city council has approved a request to add computers to 20 patrol cars in the city’s fleet. City records show that the council approved the move to begin advertising for bids on these computer systems.
According to an article at Pressofatlanticcity.com, the money for this upgrade is coming from a Justice Assistant Grant (JAG), a federal program that provides funding to state and local law-enforcement agencies. The article stated that a nine-month test run allowed officers to process 10 times as many license plate numbers as they could before using the computers.
Other duties that officers could make use of with computers in their cars, and reduce the amount of time they currently spend on these activities, include checking email, sharing documents, and communicate with other departments across the country.
