ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Looking to tighten spending on its publicly-owned fleet, resort officials recently announced a recall of all vehicles belonging to employees who live outside city limits. They also plan to implement a user fee on employees with city-car privileges, according to http://newsandtribune.com.

Newly hired Business Administrator Carol Fredericks wants all department directors to immediately analyze their departments’ vehicle assignments and submit a list of those vehicles requested to leave the city, according to a memo issued recently from Fredericks to city employees. The business administrator will then decide which cars can be driven to homes outside Atlantic City.

The recall, which Mayor Scott Evans estimated would encompass 40 to 80 city cars, excludes emergency vehicles such as police and fire department cars.

Although the city pays for the cars, along with their upkeep and gas expenses, city employees are not currently charged for use of their city-issued vehicle.
