ATHENS, OHIO – Athens Police wanted to put off a possible switch to greener vehicles, recently gained some support from Mayor Paul Wiel and Paula Horan Moseley service-safety director. City Council members have been trying to work out an arrangement with the police department to switch to smaller, less gas-guzzling vehicles, according to the Athens Messenger.
The department is asking for two marked police cruisers (usually Ford Crown Victorias) and one unmarked vehicle (a Ford Explorer Sport Trac). The estimated cost for those vehicles is $75,730.
