Steven Saltzgiver, CAFS, consultant with Mercury Associates, received the 2017 Legendary Lifetime Achievement Award today at the Government Fleet Expo and Conference (GFX).

Saltzgiver was chosen by the industry among the Public Fleet Hall of Fame inductees — this year’s six inductees and the previous years’ groups of inductees. The award is sponsored by the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA).

In his acceptance speech, Saltzgiver acknowledged members of the industry who helped him reach success.

"No one gets on this pulpit doing this by themselves. A lot of this success comes from everyone in the audience; everyone I've ever come across, everyone I've ever met, anybody that's ever shared their wisdom with me. In fleet, this is a really small community," he said. "Don't ever burn a bridge in fleet management. If there's anybody out there who's new to the fleet industry, that's probably the most sage advice I can give you."

Saltzgiver has 40 years of experience in the fleet industry in both public and private fleets. He was previously employed by the City of West Jordan and the states of Utah and Georgia before joining private fleets Republic Services and Coca Cola. Saltzgiver currently serves on NAFA’s Board of Directors. He previously served as president for the National Conference of State Fleet Administrators (NCSFA) and on its executive committee, was regional chair of the Rocky Mountain Fleet Management Association (FleetPros), and has served as chair of a NAFA committee, as well as leadership in other organizations.

As a Mercury consultant, he has participated in and directed comprehensive operational reviews for various cities, states, and universities.
