The 2012 LA Auto Show's Design Challenge, now in its 9th year, was themed Law Enforcement in 2025. Six design studios designed highway patrol vehicles to meet "the challenges of a specific region’s transportation and societal conditions in 2025.” Entries were judged by Tom Matano, School of Industrial Design at San Francisco's Academy of Art University; Imre Molnar, Detroit College of Creative Studies; Stewart Reed, Pasadena Art Center College of Design; and Bruce Meyer, California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation.
