ROCKVILLE, MD - The Montgomery County Council voted to eliminate take-home vehicle use for 36 employees. This constitutes 13 percent of the 269 non-emergency take-home vehicles, according to the Gazette. The newspaper reported that earlier this year, a review found the County was unable to determine "the precise cost to taxpayers" of the vehicles.

In August, the County discussed issuing a $500 monthly stipend for employees to use their own vehicles. Instead, a more rigorous approval process for take-home vehicles was enacted.
