COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Aging snow plows and back-to-back storms have posed a challenge for The City of Colorado Springs. As of Jan. 4 they still had 15 vehicles in the repair shop of about 50 in the fleet. A lot of that equipment is 15 to 20 years old, according to the Web site www.krdotv.com.

The problem has been around for a while, but the need to fix it wasn’t great because of the mild winters over the past three or four years, according to City Fleet Manager Tom Manarco. Now the fleet division feels the urgency and is completing a study on what equipment is needed and how much it will cost. The study should be complete sometime this summer, and Manarco expects new plow equipment may be seen as early as Jan. 2008.
