RICHMOND, VA — The University of Virginia’s Transit System has begun using B-20 biodiesel fuel, according to the Web site www.newenergyreport.org/. The fuel is a blend of 80 percent diesel and 20 percent soy compound.
After a pilot test was this past summer with biodiesel fueling two buses, it was determined that the biodiesel and all-diesel buses were equally efficient and required similar maintenance. The transition from petroleum diesel to biodiesel was also made because of the environmental benefits.
