COOK COUNTY, IL – A Cook County Forest Preserve worker plowed into four parked vehicles while allegedly intoxicated, according to the Chicago Tribune. Walter McClendon was driving his garbage truck when he crashed into the parked cars near 87th Street and Winchester Avenue, stated Steve Mayberry, district spokesman. Police received a call around 4:30 p.m. and took McClendon into custody near the scene. He was charged with driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of an accident. The veteran county employee was returning his truck to the nearby maintenance compound at 91st Street and Prospect Square. McClendon was suspended without pay and is scheduled to report to a disciplinary hearing. The Forest Preserve District has come under fire before concerning its drivers. Back in December 2004, the district found out that 14 employees had been driving without valid licenses.
