The City of Redding (Calif.) Police Department has added four new electric all-terrain motorcycles to its fleet, to be used in patrolling the river trail, parks, special events, and downtown. These vehicles and two traffic motorcycles are funded by the city’s Transportation Electrification program, according to Redding Electric Utility.
In 2017, the Redding City Council approved the allocation of greenhouse gas funds to establish the city’s Transportation Electrification program. By utilizing greenhouse gas funding, the city can replace aging equipment and vehicles while reducing its carbon footprint. To date, the City of Redding has reduced carbon emissions by roughly 174 metric tons, according to the utility.
The four electric motorcycles cost less than $100,000 and take about six hours to charge, KRCR reported.
