The City of Waveland, Miss., may change its take-home vehicle policy, mostly affecting its police officers. The current written policy states that vehicles can only be taken home if officers live within five miles outside the city, but it is known and accepted that officers living up to 20 miles away from the city are taking their vehicles home, WLOX reported.

City leaders do not oppose officers taking home vehicles and want to adopt a new rule that benefits both taxpayers and officers. They are considering charging a use tax or surcharge to cover vehicle costs.
