The Lorain (Ohio) police union has filed grievances over five patrol vehicle breakdowns over a two-week period, stating that the police department is providing unsafe working conditions, the Morning Journal reported.

This violates the officers’ work contracts and if a cruiser breaks down when officers are speeding to an emergency, city residents could be at risk, the union president stated. The vehicles that broke down had about 100,000 miles on them.

The union and city will argue their cases before an arbitrator, who will rule on the grievances.
