Davenport Aviation has delivered the first of two new Airbus H125 helicopters to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, expanding the agency’s aviation resources and supporting long-term operational readiness. The aircraft, delivered in green configuration, will be equipped with mission-specific systems for operations across Western New York.

Fleet Expansion For Erie County

The purchase will allow Erie County to operate a two-helicopter H125 fleet, providing greater scheduling flexibility, improved availability, and added capability across its mission set. The Sheriff’s Aviation Unit supports search and rescue, law enforcement, aerial patrols, and emergency response in a region that includes the Great Lakes, the Niagara Gorge, frequent severe weather, and large rural areas.

“Having a second helicopter means our pilots and Tactical Flight Officers can continue protecting the people of Erie County without interruption,” said Sheriff John Garcia. “When one aircraft is down for maintenance, our operations don’t stop, and this investment helps ensure we’re ready when our community needs us.”

H125 Capabilities And Mission Fit

The Airbus H125 is used widely by public-safety aviation units in the U.S. The model offers strong performance in high-altitude and extreme temperature conditions, along with a cabin that can be configured for multiple mission types, including law enforcement, search and rescue, and medical response.

“Our aircrew operate where weather changes quickly and terrain can be unforgiving,” said Capt. Ryan Rogers, who oversees aviation operations for Erie County. “The H125 gives us the performance to navigate these conditions and reach people quickly. Adding a second aircraft will significantly increase our readiness.”

Procurement And Support

Davenport Aviation, an authorized Airbus reseller to the U.S. government, is supplying the helicopters and supporting mission-equipment integration.

“We are pleased to work with the Erie County Sheriff’s Office on this fleet expansion,” said Chris Arnold, director of government sales at Davenport Aviation. “The additional H125 will strengthen their ability to support public-safety operations year-round.”
