A New York County will soon have 12 new electric vehicles (EVs) in its fleet. In recognition of Earth Day, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy announced several initiatives and its first ever bulk purchase of EVs, according to a press release.

A bid is being issued for the purchase of eight crossover EVs and four electric trucks that will replace internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles currently in the county fleet. The county is currently in the process of installing EV charging stations at six locations throughout the county, which are slated to be completed May 15.

"As we celebrate Earth Day 2022, let us not forget that if we are to meet the climate emergency, every day must be Earth Day. We must always consider the impact our daily actions have on our fragile climate," said Albany County Legislator and Conservation, Sustainability & Green Initiatives Committee Chair Bill Reinhardt.
