Kansas City, Missouri, City Manager Brian Platt announced Sept. 1 that new municipal fleet purchases must all be full battery electric vehicles where available. The City of Kansas City already has about 15 electric vehicles in its fleet, with two new electric buses that just hit the streets earlier this spring, according to Fox 4.
The new administrative regulation encompasses all vehicles that have fully-electric options available, which currently excludes vehicles like fire trucks.
“The municipal fleet produces approximately 15% of the city’s greenhouse gas emissions,” said Andy Savastino, the city’s chief environmental officer. “Electrification of our fleet is a necessary step to reach the city’s goal of carbon neutrality for municipal operations by 2030.”
