The Kentucky Legislative Research Commission has issued a report that urges the state’s Finance and Administration Cabinet (FAC) to revamp several fleet management policies.

The central fleet, which is part of the state's overall fleet, is the collection of vehicles owned and managed by FAC. It was estimated to have 3,793 vehicles in FY 2019, and 24.4% of vehicles in that year had relatively low use. This means agencies are not utilizing the full extent of vehicles and that the commonwealth may be buying more vehicles than are necessary, according to the report.

The report suggested continuing to track underutilized vehicles' mileage, submitting alternative-fuel reports, and suggesting changes to statutory language.
