Dane County, Wis., is accelerating the conversion of its fleet to renewable compressed natural gas (CNG) and expects 75 vehicles running on renewable CNG by the end of next year.

Dane County, Wis., is accelerating the conversion of its fleet to renewable compressed natural gas (CNG). This is part of the county’s climate change initiative, which includes tripling the county’s production of solar power and creating an Office of Energy and Climate Change, County Executive Joe Parisi announced.
The county has already begun converting its fleet to run on renewable CNG, including highway patrol trucks used for plowing. With funding included in Parisi’s 2017 budget, Dane County will have 75 vehicles running on CNG by the end of next year, including nearly one-third of the county's highway fleet.
Renewable CNG is produced naturally at the county landfill.
