W.Va. County Workers Taxed for Take-Home Vehicles

Cabell County, W. Va., employees assigned take-home vehicles must begin paying taxes on the value of the vehicle to continue using it outside of work hours.
After the Internal Revenue Service ruled that county vehicles are a taxable commodity, the Cabell County Commission considered a plan to eliminate take-home vehicles. That plan was voted down Thursday, reports the Herald-Dispatch.
The taxes on county vehicles would run between $1,000 and $1,500 annually. The money would be deducted from an employee's paycheck over the course of a year.
The IRS also allows employees to use county vehicles by paying a commuting fee of $1.50 every time the vehicle is used for a trip not considered county business.
