Vermont Gov. Phil Scott is swapping his internal combustion engine SUV for a Ford F-150 Lightning Pro. The governor visited a dealership in St. Johnsbury on August 3 to pick up his new executive protection unit.
The transportation sector is Vermont’s largest greenhouse gas contributor, the governor wrote in a Facebook post. Scott said Vermont is now the first state whose governor's official vehicle is all-electric. Scott wrote on Facebook that he will continue to make electric vehicle (EV) investments a priority for his administration.
The vehicle is typically operated by Vermont State Troopers. The former executive protection unit will still be used for long drives, according to NBC Boston. However, most in-state travel will be done in the Lightning.
