At least 10 of the city's 20 plows were lost in the fire, reports the Salt Lake Tribune. About 100 firefighters arrived at the public works maintenance facility, which was not equipped with fire suppression sprinklers.
To properly respond to upcoming storms, the city announced in a Facebook post that it will retrofit existing equipment with snow plow attachments. The city has received offers to pick up routes or provide equipment from neighboring cities and is prepared to lease equipment as a backup plan.
No one was injured in the fire, which took place overnight, and the city is insured for the property and vehicles.
