In late March Congress passed a Continuing Resolution to fund government operations that included language that would prevent the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) from changing its delivery schedule to Monday through Friday for mail other than packages.

The USPS’ Board of Governors met on April 9 to discuss the Continuing Resolution and how it would affect the USPS’ plans for changing delivery service. The board agreed to follow the law and dela implementing the new delivery schedule until legislation passes that gives the USPS the authority to change the schedule.

The Board added that it continues to support the plan to change the delivery schedule. The Board said it would save the organization approximately $2 billion annually and is part of a five-year plan designed to stabilize the USPS’ financial situation.
