WASHINGTON – The U.S Postal Service (USPS) took delivery of a prototype “Long Life Vehicle” (LLV) in order to determine whether this vehicle's powertrain type could be suitable for replacing powertrains in the existing LLVs in the USPS’ fleet. The USPS plans to test this vehicle for several years at this point, according to a USPS spokesperson.
According to VSE Corporation, the company said its prototype LLV features the RFD6 Re-Power Kit, which can increase fuel economy by up to 75%. VSE’s CEO Mo Gauthier said the USPS will be able to extend the service life of its LLVs by using this replacement powertrain technology.
VSE said it engineered the RFD6 to utilize the USPS’ existing maintenance infrastructure. The system is a “bolt-in” solution that incorporates peripheral parts used in the current LLV fleet. VSE stated that the solution doesn’t require modifications to the LLV’s body or frame for installation.

Are You Tracking Your Fleet's True Total Cost of Ownership?
Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect. See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
