The City of Trussville, Ala., has opened a new publicly accessible CNG fueling station. The 40 CNG-fueled vehicles operated by the City will refuel at this location. The 40 CNG-fueled vehicles the City operates range from patrol cars to dump trucks, according to a press release from the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition.

The new station was built through a public-private partnership involving the Trussville Utilities Board, the City of Trussville, and McCullough Oil Co. The utilities board loaned McCullough Oil a total of $1.08 million for the project. Proceeds from CNG fuel sales will be used to repay the utilities board.

“This year, with our current fleet of CNG vehicles, the city will save $100,000 or more in fuel costs,” Trussville’s Mayor Gene Melton said. “Next year, as we convert more vehicles, we could see those savings double.”

The Trussville fueling station is one of five Alabama sites dispensing CNG to the public, according to the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition. Other locations are at the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority in Birmingham, the Alagasco operation centers in Tuscaloosa and Pell City, and a Chevron station in Evergreen.
