The Travis County, Texas, Commissioners Court has voted in favor of installing four electric vehicle (EV) chargers at county facilities in the city of Austin that will be available both for county vehicles, and for public use. The Commissioners approved the resolution on July 19, according to the Austin Business Journal.

Each station will be able to accommodate two vehicles at a time. The county currently offers employees and visitors a charging station at a public garage on Lavaca Street, which has been available since 2019. The new charging stations will be installed at the Travis County Sheriff's Office, Northeast Metropolitan Park, Southeast Metropolitan Park, and the Travis County Correctional Complex. 

The purchase will be made through a grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, according to the resolution.

County commissioners voted unanimously to approve a fleet electrification plan in June 2021. The county is set to receive a Ford F-150 Lightning in August. The public information officer told commissioners Travis County will be the first government entity to receive the Lightning model.
