The New Braunfels, Texas, City Council approved plans to replace aging police vehicles through a contract with Enterprise Fleet Management. The city will conduct a lease purchase of 30 vehicles, according to documents presented to the city council.
The purchase will include:
13 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe police vehicle 4x2s
14 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe police vehicle 4x4s
Two 2023 Chevrolet Silverado police-rated 4x4s
One 2023 Ford Police Interceptor Utility 4x4
New Braunfels Police Chief Keith Lane told the council the contract will increase employee safety. Fifteen vehicles in his fleet pre-date Electronic Stability Control (ESC) standardization. Ninety of his vehicles pre-date the standardization of back-up cameras.
Lane said he expects the partnership will increase fuel efficiency by lowering the overall age of the fleet, as well as reduce maintenance costs.
The city will use a cooperative agreement through Sourcewell. The cost of the four-year management agreement will be roughly $21,000 per year. The purchase price for the 30 new vehicles, as well as equipment, will come to $1.7 million. The new vehicles are expected to be delivered after January 2023. The vehicles being replaced will be declared as surplus and sold.
