The Ford County (Ill.) sheriff hopes a quarter-cent sales tax will help his office replace its aging fleet of patrol cars. Sheriff Mark Doran said he hasn’t been able to purchase squad cars for the last three or four years and now has vehicles with more than 120,000 miles on them, the News-Gazette reported.
If the tax is passed in November, Doran also hopes to use it to hire a dispatcher and cover overtime pay and inmate meals.
