OSPREY, FL - The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office in Sarasota, Fla., received the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Facility of Excellence certification. “We were one of the first law enforcement fleets to achieve this and we have obtained it every year since its inception,” said Steve Meadows, fleet administrator for the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. “All of our technicians, parts technician, the administrator, and fleet supervisor are ASE certified as well.” The department maintains and repairs law enforcement vehicles and equipment. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has a fleet of 650 rolling stock, including 585 vehicles, with the remainder of the fleet comprised of motorcycles, ATVs, trailers, and boats. The Sheriff’s Office has six mechanics, three office personnel, one parts technician, two radio and police equipment installers (who handle all upfitting and decommissioning of patrol vehicles), and two radio repair techs (one maintaining laptops and the other maintaining radios). “We also maintain the phone system, including cell phones and the main phones. Two additional people take care of that. Also, six members of the staff are certified emergency vehicle technicians specializing in law enforcement vehicles, including the fleet administrator and fleet supervisor,” added Meadows.
