Rising Gas Prices Dip Into Budgets of Law Enforcement, Other Public Agencies
NAPLES, FL – While many Lee County agencies budgeted for a gas price spike this year, even though they're exempt from certain fuel taxes, those agencies are keeping a nervous eye trained on oil prices.
NAPLES, FL – While many Lee County agencies budgeted for a gas price spike this year, even though they’re exempt from certain fuel taxes, those agencies are keeping a nervous eye trained on oil prices, according to the Naples Daily News.
The public bus system in Lee County spent $26,532 more on diesel last month than it did in October, even though it bought about the same amount of gas.
And the Lee County Sheriff’s Office is absorbing a rising fuel cost, paying nearly 40 percent more to fuel its patrol vehicles from May 1-22 than it did for the entire month of March. In April, the Lee Sheriff’s Office spent $195,000 in gas expenditures.
