The City of Redlands, Calif., took delivery of two new heavy-duty side loaders that run on liquefied natural gas in August. This vehicle joins another heavy-duty front loader the City acquired in April. The City entered into an agreement with the Mobile Source Reduction Committee in Feb. 2012. This agreement provides $30,000 per vehicle for clean air projects. In addition, the City stated it received an additional grant of $90,000 to purchase three additional trucks within the next year.

A bill, AB 2766, passed in 1990 that provides for the collection of an additional $4 in motor vehicle registration fees to fund air pollution reduction efforts and 30 cents of each dollar is deposited into a discretionary fund used by the MSRC for various programs across the state.

The City currently has 18 LNG-fueled vehicles in its fleet and 10 fueled by compressed natural gas. Its total fleet includes 415 pieces of rolling stock and 485 pieces of miscellaneous equipment and is maintained by the City’s Quality of Life Department's Equipment Maintenance Division.
