The City of Newark, N.J., announced it will upgrade its public safety fleet with 51 new patrol cars and a foam-dispensing fire truck. The new patrol cars were partially funded by private companies that hire the city to provide officers for construction and road repair sites, reports NJ.com.

In total, the city purchased 51 SUVs and sedans from Ford, including 10 "stealth" vehicles. These new additions will replace some of the agency's older patrol cars and will be assigned to neighborhood precincts as well as the outside employment unit, in which officers are hired by private companies.

The city also purchased a foam-dispensing fire truck through a federal port security grant. It will help the city respond to fires more quickly.
