An officer with the Newburgh Heights Police Department in Ohio was injured in a roll-over crash. The officer was attempting to catch up to a traffic offender when he struck a patch of ice, causing his cruiser to go off the right side of the roadway. The cruiser struck a parked vehicle and rolled several times.

Police Chief John Majoy told News 5 Cleveland that the department’s chase policy is only to chase in the case of a violent felony or when a suspect is operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He also stressed that this was not a vehicle chase — the officer was trying to catch up to a traffic offender who may not have realized the officer was attempting a traffic stop.

The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to a press release from the police agency. He was discharged from the hospital later that day.
