Ohio City to Build Propane Station, Convert Fleet Vehicles
The City of Springfield, Ohio, is converting 10 high-mileage fleet cars to run on propane autogas and will construct a fueling station at the city's service center.
The City of Springfield, Ohio, is converting 10 high-mileage fleet cars to run on propane autogas and will construct a fueling station at the city's service center.
City commissioners approved $75,000, which will be added to a $148,000 state transportation grant, to convert the cars. The city will also convert two diesel-powered street sweepers. City commissioners accepted a bid Tuesday from ICOM North America for the project.
City officials plan to have the vehicles done in February, after acquiring the conversion kits.
"We're very excited," City Service Director Chris Moore told the Springfield News-Sun. "As soon as we get some reasonable weather, we'll have the filling station in place."
The city has more than 300 vehicles in its fleet.
