The city plans to use local funds or EMS billing revenue to cover $813,000 of the total costs, and supplement the remainder with grant funds, reports the Springfield News-Sun.
The police division will receive nine new vehicles, and the city service department will recieve three dump trucks — two for street maintenance and one for the forestry department.
The city has 19 large trucks, including 12 that are 10 years or older. The three new trucks will replace older models all built in the 1990s, including one that’s 20 years old.
New York City now has the largest EV law enforcement fleet in North America, according to the city.
