Off-Duty Projects Pay for NJ Town’s Police Cars
By charging a small fee to private entities to provide police presence for the last 18 months, the Town of West New York, N.J., can afford four new police cars.
The City of West New York found a way to update its aging police fleet without raising taxes — by charging a $150 per day fee to private entities to provide police presence for traffic and safety issues, the according to the Hudson Reporter.
The Police Off Duty Car Fund has been ongoing for 18 months, and the city has been able to pay for four new Ford patrol cars to replace some of its aging 26-vehicle police fleet. The town has a lease-to-own contract with Ford.
