Nevada's Public Safety Chief Asks to Replace 300 Highway Patrol Vehicles
RENO, NE – Nevada's new public safety chief detailed his department's $453.1 million budget to lawmakers, including plans to hire 60 new state troopers and replace a fleet of more than 300 Highway Patrol vehicles.
RENO, NE – Nevada’s new public safety chief detailed his department’s $453.1 million budget to lawmakers, including plans to hire 60 new state troopers and replace a fleet of more than 300 Highway Patrol vehicles, according to the Associated Press. The additional troopers are being requested based on a University of Nevada study that recommended the Highway Patrol add 93 new officers. The new hires, together with 18 support positions, would cost $12.7 million over the next two years.
The Department of Public Safety’s proposed budget for the next two fiscal years also includes a one-shot appropriation of $12.5 million to replace 323 Highway Patrol vehicles and seven motorcycles. Many of the current cruisers, motorcycles, and other vehicles have been in use for years, and many have high mileage and are unreliable
