Nevada Department of Transportation Adds Western Star Trucks to Its Fleet

CARSON CITY, NV – The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT purchased 36 Western Star trucks and will distribute the trucks among its snowplow, sander, and dump truck fleets. After NDOT submitted the specifications required for bid, Sierra Western Star of Sparks, Nev., developed a premium spec package to maximize performance and driver comfort. The resulting purchase included 4900 FA trucks with 123-inch BBCs and Caterpillar C13 engines.
Western Star trucks feature wide service cabs with large door openings, room between the seats for the extensive body equipment control console, and many maintenance options. Since the NDOT trucks will be repurposed among its snowplow, sander, and dump truck fleets, depending on the season, it was important that the vehicles include all of the appropriate specifications for these applications.
NDOT plans, designs, constructs, and maintains the transportation system for Nevada’s travelers by evaluating environmental, economic, and social needs, as well as intermodal transportation opportunities. The department is responsible for the planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of the 5,400 miles of highway and nearly 1,000 bridges that make up the state highway system.
