The Helena, Montana, Police Department (HPD) is adding four more Ford Police Interceptor hybrid SUVs to its fleet after receiving a significant return on investment from three hybrid models it purchased in 2020, The Independent Record reported.
HPD’s Lt. Jayson Zander told the newspaper that the hybrid vehicles are more fuel and mileage efficient, with about six miles per gallon efficiency over 15 to 20 vehicles. Despite each hybrid vehicle costing more than a traditional patrol vehicle — about $3,000 — Zander said the fuel cost savings makes up for the added cost in about a year.
The department's new hybrid vehicles are expected to arrive in the next 30 days.
