After flood damage forced the fleet to turn off its fuel pumps earlier this year, the City of St. Joseph, Mo., is switching from underground to above-ground fuel tanks, reported News Press Now.
When flooding occurs, the city must empty its underground tanks and fill them with water so they don’t float. After the flood, the city pays to have the tanks professionally drained before they’re refilled. During this process, city fuel pumps must be shut down.
